A Flock of Words

A cross-media collaboration with composer Robert Rowe, peformed at NYU. A text from Elias Canetti's Crowds and Power flies in and through a swarm of birds. Computer midi-signals trigger light and sound events, including light sweeps, quicktime movies and words animated by "woids", an artificial life algorithm based on flocking and herd behavior.

An artificial life algorithm swarms words in and out of linear readability, set off by computer music signals. An interactive demonstration of this will work was presented at Siggraph in August 1996. awarded prize for historic development of artificial life in art at Vida 2.0
